Pronunciation for Non-Indians

Dear Non-Indians,

We like it if you pronunce few common Sanskrit words “our” way and not your way.

Here’s a list:-

  • ‘Karma’ is pronounced ‘karrmaa’ or ‘karrma’ & not, ‘kaaaaaarmaaaaa’
  • ‘Guru’ is pronounced how it’s written, not, “Goooooroooooo”
  • ‘Tantra’ is not ‘Taaantra’ or ‘Taaantraaaa’. It’s more like, “Thanthraa” (little effort on “th”)
  • ‘Mantra’ is “Manthra” or “Manthraa” not ‘Mantra’
  • Sanskrit is, “Sans-krith” (with little effort on “th”) not “Saaans-krith” or “Saaans-krit’ (you might hear few Indians say that too, I feel it’s wrong)
